With just over a week to go until the penultimate event of the 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship, hosted on the Silverstone National circuit (23/24 September), TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK's Rory Butcher is looking to build on his first podium of the season.
BTCC.net caught up with the Scottish driver after he secured his first podium of the 2023 campaign on the Donington GP layout, just a couple weekends ago (26/27 August).
"It was fantastic! I've been waiting for a result like that for a few rounds now, and I definitely felt like it was on it's way but with how qualifying went on Saturday it was hard to believe that we would win race three on Sunday," said Butcher.
"It's not my first race win, I've got 11 over my career in the BTCC so far, but what was different about this one was the psychology...securing it felt like a big weight lifted off my shoulders.
"It's hard not to look forward to Silverstone! I know my way round there and how to get the most out of a qualifying lap – but nothing is certain and I just have to focus on doing what I do, and hopefully we can then fight for silverware."
Butcher does have a recent history of success at the Northamptonshire track, having collected three wins there over his BTCC career, including a double victory in 2021, as well as a lights-to-flag win during the opening contest in 2022.
"I've got great memories around that track. There are plenty of opportunities to pass and get stuck-in with the action – it'll be a great weekend for fans," said Butcher.
