Jelley ready for home race after strong showing in Scotland

22nd August 2023

Stephen Jelley is set for rounds 22, 23, and 24 of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season this weekend (August 26/27), as he competes at his home circuit of Donington Park in Leicestershire.

Opening the season on the venue’s National layout and scoring a fourth-place finish, Jelley will now tackle the longer Grand Prix circuit in his BMW 330e M Sport – the first time the BTCC has competed on the 2.4-mile configuration since 2002.

Last time out, Jelley headed north to Knockhill in Scotland (12/13 August), where he raced from 18th on the grid in race one to finish fourth, then claimed a podium in race two, before an incident dropped him down the order in race three.

With his West Surrey Racing / Team BMW machine on fine form, despite the mixed weather conditions, he will be hoping for another strong and consistent weekend challenging at the sharp end of the field.

Jelley and his teammates will head out for two free practice sessions on Saturday, August 26th, before qualifying at 1540 – which can be seen on the ITV Sport YouTube channel. There are three 14 lap races scheduled for Sunday, at 1145, 1445, and 1725, all of which will be shown LIVE on ITV4.

“It will be a nice contrast racing at Donington Park, after a long trip north to Knockhill last time out and being able to go home at the end of the day this weekend," said Jelley. "It will be the first time I have raced on the full Grand Prix circuit there since British GT in 2010, so that will be interesting, but we had the tyre test in July to get familiarised.

“Adding two big braking zones mean there’ll be good opportunities for overtaking, and given how strong the car was at Knockhill I am optimistic we’ll be up there in the mix again this time out. It was nice to be back on the podium again and hopefully we can consistently run in and around the top-five for the remaining rounds of the season.”
