For a man that has won four BTCC titles and nearly 70 races in the UK's premier motorsport championship, this weekend is fast becoming one of the best ever for Colin Turkington, as the Team BMW star secured his second win of the day at Brands Hatch.
As per the first race, Turkington took the victory in commanding fashion from pole position while the rest of the pack scrapped behind for the remaining podium positions.
Those places eventually went to Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS' Tom Ingram and NAPA Racing UK's Ash Sutton as the BTCC's two most recent champions resumed battle.
MB Motorsport with Laser Tools Racing's Jake Hill looked like he could've grabbed his first podium of the day as he blasted into second on the opening lap, but he faded after a scrap with Sutton and LKQ Euro Car Parts with SYNETIQ's Josh Cook, before he eventually exited the race at Druids with suggested steering failure.
A safety car was called for after Hill's exit and it was the race for second place that grabbed the attention. Ingram hounded old adversary Sutton and for the second successive race the latter had to eventually relinquish the place in another exciting battle.
Team BMW's Adam Morgan produced a sensational surge through the field to grab fourth as the BMW 330e M Sports again showed their prowess in the warm and sunny conditions at Brands Hatch.
Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS' Tom Chilton has been in and around the sharp end for much of the weekend and he pressured home NAPA Racing UK's Dan Rowbottom, ending up just half a second shy of fifth place.
Dan Cammish (NAPA Racing UK) and Aiden Moffat (LKQ Euro Car Parts with SYNETIQ) were next in the order, whilst the Evans Halshaw Power Maxed Racing duo of Mikey Doble and Árón Taylor-Smith rounded out the top ten.
Hill and Cook's efforts rather unraveled early on while battling for a podium. Cook's #66 Toyota was squeezed onto the grass and while he was able to continue initially his radiator was full of grass from the skirmish. He eventually dropped down the order to finish 16th, as a total of three Toyotas came into the pits with bodywork damage.
The final race of the day takes place at 1715 and will be screened live across the UK on ITV4 and worldwide via the ITV Sport TikTok channel.
Colin Turkington said: "It's a long time since I've won two in a day – everything has just fallen into place for me today. Track position has been key, once you get your car to the front it's a little easier. The safety car is like your worst nightmare, you're always expecting that, but Ash [Sutton] and Tom [Ingram] were also getting stuck into eachother, so thankfully I was able to just get away and take the win."
